COLUMBUS – It is not too often that you see a clown, a dunk tank and a band around a nursing home at the same time.

Well, you could see all three and more at Brookstone Acres on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted a carnival for their residents and their families.

They are doing this as a part of nursing home week which runs from May 8th until Saturday May 14th. Life Enrichment Coordinator at Brookstone Acres Stephanie Johnson, says instead of doing smaller events everyday, they wanted to blow everybody away with something larger.

“The theme this year is, it’s a small world with a big heart and so their theme is carnival. So we thought instead of doing something everyday for a little bit, we thought let’s go big with a bang and so we did the big carnival with music, games and food,” says Johnson.

Attendees could hop in the dunk tank, get their face painted or grab a funnel cake, among many other activities at the carnival. Many residents chose to simply eat and enjoy the music that was playing throughout the afternoon.

Johnson says the event showed that even a nursing home can throw a good party.

“We want to make sure we are a part for the community. Let people know that a nursing home doesn’t have to be a negative thing. We are all about being positive,” says Johnson.

With a bigger event such as this one, organizers needed plenty of help and they got it as over 50 individuals came out to assist at the carnival.
